We are heartbroken to share the news that Allan Armstrong, who played an enormous role in the founding and development of the Republican Socialist Platform, has passed away following a period of illness.
Many of our members had the immense privilege of counting Allan as a friend as well as a comrade. His absence from our lives will be felt as a devastating loss.
We cannot do justice here to Allan’s massive contribution to the socialist movement in Scotland and across these islands over decades, spanning his years as a rank-and-file trade unionist while working as a teacher through to his prominent role in the anti-poll tax struggle.
These experiences shaped Allan’s republican socialist and internationalist politics, which remain as relevant as ever. His extensive writings form part of his legacy and are now part of our movement’s collective memory.
