The Republican Socialist Platform is proud to co-sign the following statement in solidarity with Cornish left organisations campaigning for devolution in Kernow/Cornwall on par with that extended to Scotland and Cymru/Wales. We encourage people in Scotland to sign their petition.
The Cornish people have the right to recognition of their nationhood and to self-determination. We implore everyone in the Celtic world to sign the petition, share it widely and support our Celtic siblings.
In 2014, the UK Government recognised the Cornish as a national minority under the European Framework Convention of the Protection of National Minorities, legally affording them the same status as the Irish, Scots and Welsh. Yet, the government refuses to recognise Kernow/Cornwall as a nation or to give her devolved powers. It is time they resolved this contradiction.
We represent organisations from four Celtic nations and all affirm our support for Kernow/Cornwall. The petition deadline is 11th September, please do what you can.
