Alan Boylan, a founding member of the Republican Socialist Platform based in Dundee, passed away last Thursday 25th January 2024.
Anyone who has attended our meetings over the past three years or so will remember Alan’s familiar and consistent presence. Many of our members, particularly in Dundee, will of course have known him much longer through his history with the Scottish Socialist Party, the Radical Independence Campaign, the Republican Communist Forum and the James Connolly Society.
Alan reminded us very recently how much he valued the ability to participate in our meetings through Zoom as health and mobility issues made it more difficult for him to attend in-person meetings and demonstrations.
He continued to support RSP and RIC activities, including through donations towards the costs of our RSP delegation to Ireland in January 2023, the RIC bloc at Dundee Pride in July 2023 and the recent RIC conference in Glasgow.
Alan took ill very suddenly, but was in touch with a number of local comrades and knew he was in our thoughts. He will be sorely missed.
A funeral service will take place at Dundee Crematorium on Macalpine Road next Friday 9th February 2024 at 1.30pm and is open to all of his friends.
We intend to share a number of fuller tributes at a later date.
